We can only hope

Will Christian conservatives back a third-party candidate if the Republican Party nominates pro-choice Rudy Giuliani? I hope so. A commentator at the New York Times says:

Let the Republicans nominate Rudy so the Evangelicals can run a 3rd party candidate. We’ll get a Clinton in the office with just a plurality of the vote. Sounds like 1992 all over again!
Yee hah!

Hmmm, I'd never thought about it this way before, especially after reading the cover story of Harper's a few weeks ago, "A Fate Worse Than Bush: Why You Should Fear a President Giuliani." But hey, if his nomination can fracture the Republican party into competing camps - on the one hand, fiscal conservatives with a slightly nationalistic bent and less compassion for the downtrodden than some, and on the other, radical misogynistic homophobes frothing at the mouth at the prospect of resisting a modernity their clunking generalizing minds can't deal with, by means of effecting a proto-fascistic nativistic theocracy cloaked in the language of "family values," then....

Rudy Giuliani, Republican nominee '08, Rah Rah Sis Boom Bah!

Keep up the good work guys.

P.S. Matt, enjoyed your article about Strassburger's Dubai speech on the Ursinus website.
